What should I expect at my chemical peel appointment?
First, your aesthetician will perform a skin assessment to determine the correct peel for your needs. Then, they will cleanse and prep your skin. Next, a unique and safe chemical peel solution will be applied to your face. Once the solution is applied, you are good to go. Over the following days, the damaged skin will peel off. It is important to follow post-treatment instructions, stay out of direct sunlight, and not pick at the flaking skin.
Can I add Dermaplaning to my chemical peel appointment?
Yes! Dermaplaning removes oil, dirt, dead skin cells, and “peach fuzz” (fine facial hair) from the face using a sterile blade. This creates a smooth and flawless base, allowing the chemical peel to penetrate deeper into the skin.
What should I expect post-chemical peel?
It can take approximately ten days to shed the old, damaged skin and reveal the healthier, glowing skin underneath—plan for flaking and shedding skin for up to two weeks post-treatment. Do not peel the skin yourself or help it shed. You must let the skin shed off on its own to avoid scarring and other wounds. When washing your face, gently pat it dry and always follow the post-treatment protocol given by your aesthetician.
Is a chemical peel painful?
A chemical peel is not painful, but it can be uncomfortable. Your aesthetician will help relieve discomfort by providing a fan or topical numbing solution. Please communicate with your aesthetician so they can effectively manage your comfort levels.
How often do I need a chemical peel treatment?
Your aesthetician will help you create a treatment plan to achieve your goals. Some patients prefer to receive a chemical peel a few times a year, while others require less. Patients treating acne scarring may require several chemical peels spaced 4-6 weeks apart to achieve the best results.
