Kybella Guide Part 3 – Kybella FAQ

What is Kybella?

Kybella is an injectable treatment that’s used specifically to treat submental fat (chin fat). It is administered over a series of sessions by a licensed health care professional.

Is Kybella safe?

Yes. Kybella is an FDA-approved cosmetic treatment, making it a very safe form of treatment for those deemed to be suitable.

Is Kybella effective?

Yes. Kybella is used in countless clinics across the country as an extremely effective way to treat chin fat.

Are there any side effects?

The common side effects of Kybella injections include redness, swelling and bruising although these are all temporary side effects that are well tolerated by the majority of patients.

Is Kybella better than liposuction?

There is no simple answer to this question and varies for each patient. It you have good skin elasticity and have a busy schedule, which means you can’t take too much time off work then Kybella is an excellent choice. If you don’t mind having surgery and can take off the required downtime then liposuction might be the best fit. Your surgeon will be able to advise you best.

Can Kybella be used on any other areas of the face?

Kybella is only approved for use on the fat beneath the chin. Using it anywhere else can be risky so it’s not suggested that you have Kybella injected anywhere but the area below your chin.

Won’t I be left with loose skin?

A good surgeon will determine if you’re a good candidate for Kybella by taking the elasticity of your skin into account. If it’s expected that you’d be left with a lot of loose skin after the treatments, then liposuction might be suggested instead.

Is there any downtime?

There is little-to-no downtime with Kybella, which is one of its big advantages over more serious treatments, such as a facelift or liposuction. Although temporary side effects such as swelling and soreness are to be expected, they’re usually not so severe as to prevent you from doing your daily activities.
