Finish Off Your Weight Loss Journey With CoolSculpting

When you’re at or near a healthy, stable body weight, you may feel frustrated that there are still areas of bulging fat that just won’t go away. Even if you’re relatively toned and trim — and even if you “eat clean” and exercise daily — you may still struggle with one or more fatty areas, such as:

  • Double chin
  • Arm fat
  • Muffin top
  • Love handles
  • Saddle bags
  • Thigh fat
  • Back fat
  • Bra fat
  • Banana roll

Studies demonstrate that where you store fat is determined by your genes and your gender, not by your willpower. Women, for instance, usually accumulate fat around their hips and thighs, while men tend to develop fatty rolls on their abdomens.

Dr. Stephen O’Connell and our dedicated team at Serenity Rejuvenation Center can help you lose weight permanently and safely at our Bellevue, Washington, office. But if you’re already at or near your goal weight, yet still need to lose extra rolls or bulges of fat, we recommend a body sculpting technique called CoolSculpting®.

CoolSculpting eliminates genetically determined excess fat cells from your chin and body, without surgery, downtime, or crunches. Here’s how it works.

Patented, tested, and safe

Unlike surgical liposuction, CoolSculpting doesn’t require incisions, punctures, or vacuums to remove fat permanently. Instead, CoolSculpting relies on a patented technique called cryolipolysis, which cools, crystalizes, and basically freezes away fat cells.

Developed by two Harvard University researchers, CoolSculpting’s cryolipolysis method of destroying fat cells was cleared by the FDA in 2009. CoolSculpting is now the #1 nonsurgical fat-reduction technique used by doctors around the world.

Surrounding skin is unaffected

If you tried to “freeze” away your own fat with ice packs, you’d risk damaging your skin — the temperature of the ice could adversely affect your skin cells.

But CoolSculpting is different. Instead of using temperatures that are low enough to freeze and crystallize water (such as the water in most body cells), CoolSculpting lowers the temperature only enough to crystallize and destroy fat cells.

Fat actually freezes at a higher temperature than water does. That means your skin, your muscles, and your organs aren’t affected by CoolSculpting’s low temperatures.

The only adverse effect that you might experience is a slight reddening or swelling after your treatment. The tenderness and swelling is very temporary, however, and should only last a few hours.

Paddles, not needles or vacuums

One of the reasons that CoolSculpting is so popular is that your skin isn’t opened for any reason. Instead, the cooling paddles and applicators are placed on the top of your skin.

You simply lie back and relax while the CoolSculpting applicators target your excess, unwanted fat cells. You can read, catch up on emails, or listen to music on headphones.

CoolSculpting works with your body

CoolSculpting destroys about 20-25% of targeted fat cells during each treatment. Depending on how much of a reduction you’d like to make, that may be sufficient to reach your goals. However, most women and men opt for a series of 2-3 CoolSculpting treatments.

The gradual elimination of fat cells makes your CoolSculpting figure look and feel natural. During the weeks after your treatment, your body naturally eliminates the debris from the destroyed fat cells. You lose the fat gradually, so nobody has to know you’ve had “body work.”

You can target just one area of your neck or body, or several: CoolSculpting is FDA-cleared to treat nine specific body areas. Each session takes anywhere from 1-3 hours, depending on the size and number of locations treated.
